Director: Seth Gordon

Description: Billy Mitchell is widely recognized as a celebrity in the videogame community for holding world records in the arcade classics Donkey Kong and Centipede in the 1980s, and for performing a perfect game of Pac-Man in July 1999. Mitchell is also noted for his bold, self-promoting attitude; he is the self-proclaimed "most seasoned person in the hot-sauce/chicken wing industry" and owner of "Rickey's Hot Sauce" in Hollywood, Florida. Additionally, he was also made one of the chief "referees" for the videogame record trackers at Twin Galaxies in the 1990s.

On the other side of the country, in Redmond, Washington, Boeing employee Steve Wiebe had been laid off the day he signed papers on his house with his wife, Nicole. Weibe is described by friends as a closet talent; an experienced baseball player, artist, and musician who never quite succeeded on a large scale in any such area. After being laid off, Weibe begins playing the game Donkey Kong as a past time, and soon reads of Mitchell's world record of 847,000 on the internet. Believing he can beat the score, Wiebe sends in a videotape of himself to Twin Galaxies on which he surpasses a million points, beating Mitchell's record. For a few weeks, Weibe is a local celebrity and news topic as the new world record holder. However, a conspiracy soon follows, as Mitchell deploys two Twin Galaxies referees to investigate Weibe's machine and find that the machine's cabinet had been installed with a possibly modified circuit board provided by Roy Shildt. Unbeknownst to Wiebe, Shildt is an established rival of Billy Mitchell, whom many believe would love to see Mitchell's score taken down by using Steve and possibly causing a tarnished reputation of Twin Galaxies.

Despite having no proof that Shildt modified the board, Wiebe's videotaped score is disregarded by Twin Galaxies. With his skills in question, Wiebe travels to Funspot in Laconia, NH, to perform a high score live for Walter Day and other high-ranking members of Twin Galaxies, hoping to confront Billy Mitchell once and for all and play a head-to-head game to determine, without question, who is the real "king of kong".

Rolling Stone gave the film 3 out of 4 stars, wondering "Who would have guessed that a documentary about gamers obsessed with scoring a world record at Donkey Kong would not only be roaringly funny but serve as a metaphor for the decline of Western civilization?"
On Rotten Tomatoes, 99% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 69 reviews (68 "fresh", 1 "rotten")

..."independent movies"??? what are you talking about? 20th century fox, universal, warner... movies don't "need money" when they're distributed by those major firms and at the same time, this has nothing to do with independence...

Thanks. Shame that it is not a DVDrip, though. The original source may have been a DVD, but it was recorded to VHS first, then transferred to digital after that.
